An Egg-cellent Easter for our Holbeck Families
19th April 2021We organised a jam-packed schedule of activities to keep our local families happy and healthy over the two week Easter holidays this year. There were lots of chances to keep busy with crafting, sports, dancing and cooking. We also spent lots of time outside in the fresh air thanks to the Spring sunshine, and of course – ate Easter eggs!
Getting Creative
We encouraged children and their families to get creative over the holidays, with Easter themed activity packs handed out throughout the first week.
- We provided kits for children to make their very own Easter bonnets. There were lots of beautifully crafted bonnets to be seen throughout the holidays. Some children proudly wore theirs for the Easter Egg hunt, and others brought them to St Matthews to be put on display.
- Children were given Easter Egg decoration kits which included egg moulds, chocolate, decorations and equipment to learn how to make their own eggs.
- We also gave out ‘Grow Your Own’ Activity Packs to facilitate the growth of fresh fruit and vegetables at home throughout the spring and summer season.
Moving on the Moor
In partnership with DAZL and Leeds United, there were lots of opportunities for families to get moving and take part in outdoor activities on Holbeck Moor.
DAZL (Dance Action Zone Leeds) delivered an Intergenerational Garden Groovers dance session, and Leeds United supported us with two Multi Sport sessions. Children were able to learn new skills and try a variety of fun games suitable for all ages including football, rounders and dodgeball.
Easter Egg Hunt & Grotto
The Easter holidays wouldn’t be complete without an Easter Egg hunt! Our families joined us for a walk around the community where there were lots of eggs for them to find before they could enjoy the chocolate kind.
We also gave the entrance of St Matthews a Spring makeover for our clients, old and young, to enjoy when they visited the centre over the Easter period.
And Lots More!
- We held a music themed quiz and a Royal Family: Kings and Queens quiz. Children were given their own activity pack to help them to join in, including equipment to make their own maracas.
- Throughout the holidays, families collected delicious meals and fresh ingredients including brunch hampers, jacket potatoes, spring chicken dinner boxes and packed lunches.
- We rounded off the holidays with a live cooking demo with Fullcrumb kitchen. Our chef Julie joined forces with Fullcrumb Kitchen chef Chris to make a delicious homemade lasagne.
The kids had a great time, thanks to everyone who arranged it.
It’s been a great two weeks, the kids have loved it.
Thank you all for the hard work you’ve put in. We absolutely loved it! It’s really broken up the holidays for us without having to spend an arm and a leg.
