About Us
What we do…
Once the beating industrial heart of Leeds, Holbeck has a rich history shaped by the people who have lived and worked in the area. It’s a history brimming with pride, entrepreneurship and success.
Yet more recently Holbeck’s situation has been better reflected by the startling fact that it is one of the 0.2% poorest areas in England and challenged by deprivations in income, employment, education, health, housing and environment and suffering from high crime rates.
We work with communities to strengthen existing relationships and resources, keep people socially and physically active, empowering them to make more informed choices and live longer.
In 2017 Holbeck Together moved to new offices in a prominent position in the heart of Holbeck. Through our partnership with the Leeds Building Society our new central location has enabled us to engage with the community in more diverse ways, to mobilise the skills of the Holbeck Together team more frequently and provide us with further insight into the needs of those we support and our neighbours. For instance, many more people drop in on an adhoc basis or enquire about services; it also has enabled us to support a more diverse group of people in crisis many of whom are under the age of 60. More agencies working in the area stop by to collaborate with us and more local people come in who want to support their community by volunteering with Holbeck Together. Some of those dropping in have merely wanted to thank us for rejuvenating a local building with a rich sense of history which now contributes to a sense of pride in the local area.
