Where to Find Support in Leeds in Grief Awareness Week (and Beyond)

6th December 2024

This year, Grief Awareness Week falls in the week of 2-8 December – a fitting time of year, given how difficult the festive period can be for many people. Grief Awareness Week from the Good Grief Trust is designed to highlight the people, places and projects who can support others experiencing grief, with Grief Awareness Week events taking place in Leeds this year at locations including Leeds City Museum Cafe (10:30am-12pm on 4 Dec) and Carers Leeds (1pm-2:30pm on 5 Dec).

However, if you’re someone who’s found themselves really struggling in 2024, you’ll find that support in Leeds is available all year round. Throughout Leeds, Sue Ryder host weekly Grief Kind drop-in sessions, with a 10am-12pm Monday session at Village Hotel Leeds North, a 2:30pm-4:30pm Tuesday session at Headingley Stadium and a 10am-12pm Thursday session at Leeds United Football Stadium.

Leeds Mind offers suicide bereavement support via Zoom or in face to face sessions, while Reset Counselling runs regular bereavement groups in Otley (11am-1pm, first Friday of every month at Beech Hill Church Hall), Burley (2pm-4pm, second Thursday of every month at the Parish Centre) and Silsden (10:30am-12:30pm, first and third Tuesday of every month at Silsden Methodist Church Hall).

Good Grief also run a grief cafe in Guiseley, with people encouraged to support one another over tea and cake at Guiseley Theatre each month 2pm-4pm. For future dates, follow Good Grief Guiseley on Facebook or contact Heather at goodgriefguiseley@gmail.com.
